Jackie Rossetti, Deputy Director of Communications
The Office of Communications and City Cable is responsible for all the internal and external telecommunications in Somerville City Hall and all other municipal governmental offices. The purpose of the department is to facilitate efficient inter-governmental communication and service between City departments, and more importantly, externally between City residents and the municipal government that serves them. Responsibilities include the procurement, administration, and maintenance of landline telephones, cell phones and pagers issued to City personnel. The department also oversees programming and production of the two municipal cable television stations, City Cable Channel 16, and Educational Channel 15. These stations make up 2/3 of the PEG triad (Public, Educational, Government) of municipal cable TV access. Communications is also responsible for public information provided to the press and for coordination of various community events. In the coming year, the office will also take on new responsibilities, as the mayor pursues a number of new communications initiatives, including a 311 call system, a reverse 911 system, and other new initiatives made possible by technological advances. The department is also working with the Information Technology department to overhaul the City’s website.
