‘VISIONING’ MEETINGS SCHEDULED TO DISCUSS SOMERVILLE’S FUTURE

Series of Conversations to be Held Throughout December, January

SOMERVILLE - Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and Executive Director of the Mayor's Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development Monica Lamboy announced that the City will hold a series of Visioning Meetings throughout the months of December and January, as part of the City's efforts to prepare a Comprehensive Plan in order to help prepare the city for the upcoming Green Line Extension, Orange Line Station at Assembly Square, and to anticipate and plan for other change around the City.

"With the Steering Committee for the Comprehensive Plan already in place and working to advise the City on the creation of the Plan, we're very eager to hear more from the entire community - those who the Plan will, ultimately, benefit," Mayor Curtatone said.  "This is an exciting opportunity for residents of all ages and backgrounds to influence a key portion of City policy and development, much like ResiStat has been for the last four years, and I encourage everyone to attend one or more of these Visioning Meetings to help shape the future of our City."

"The visioning meetings will be featured in a ‘World Café' style, facilitating discussion which allows attendees to share their views in a constructive, collaborative manner, and create a common vision for the City," said Lamboy.  "We're interested to learn what community members today perceive as positive trends and issues, which they believe should be retained, as well as creative ideas they have about our shared future."

Meetings will be held as follows:

Tuesday, December 1, 2009:  Albert F. Argenziano School at Lincoln Park, 290 Washington St.

Wednesday, December 9, 2009:  Holiday Inn, 30 Washington St.

Wednesday, December 16, 2009:  TAB Building, 167 Holland St.

Tuesday, January 5, 2010:  The Center for Arts at the Armory, 191 Highland Ave.

All meetings begin at 6:30 p.m.

The Somerville Comprehensive Plan is a vision of what the City wants to become, and the steps needed to achieve that vision. Based on factual data and comprehensive analysis, the Plan's focus is on city-wide goals and policies and the strategies for implementing them.
