To register to vote in Somerville you must be:

  • A U.S. citizen,
  • a Somerville resident, and
  • at least 18 years old on, or before, the next election.

Office Hours:

Mon.-Wed.: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Thursday: 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. An acknowledgement notice will be sent confirming that you are registered.

ABSENTEE VOTING

To vote absentee, you must be unable to vote on Election Day due to (1) absence from City during the hours the Polls are open; (2) physical disability preventing you from going to the polling place; or (3) religious belief.

Absentee ballot applications are available upon request from the Election Commission office. Written communiqué with original signature and relevant information requesting absentee ballot may also serve as an application.

Penalty for Illegal Registration: Fine of not more than $10,000 or imprisonment for not more than five years, or both.

Massachusetts General Laws, chapter 56 section 8.

In order to participate in any election, primary or preliminary the Deadline for Voter Registration is at least 20 days before.
