The 2013 City of Somerville Memorial Day Parade will take place on Sunday, May 26, beginning at 1:00 p.m. It will begin in front of City Hall, and will proceed up Highland Street to Davis Square, and then along Holland Street to Broadway. It will end in front of Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery on Broadway near the Alewife Brook Parkway.
Seventy-six organizations will participate in this year’s parade. Nearly all of the groups who performed in last year’s parade will return, along with the following additions:
The 215th National Guard Marching band
The Quabog Highlanders (a bagpipes-and-drums marching band)
Blend of Bones (a four-person trombone band)
Four Miss New England beauty queens
The Pathfinders Drum and Bugle Corps and Color Guard
The Somerville Girl Scout Daisies
This year, participating organizations will be encouraged to be as “green” as possible, utilizing hybrid or electric vehicles if they are available.
After the parade, the Somerville Allied Veterans Council will conduct its annual ceremony at Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, to honor those service members who have been killed in action. The public is invited to attend.
