Firearm Safety Alert: Possible firearm sought, if found report to 911, do not handle | Tuesday, June 6, 2023

On Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at approximately 1:18 PM, the Somerville Police Department responded to the area of Edward Leathers Park and the Somerville High School for a report of two males armed with firearms.  The reporting party stated they encountered two males on bicycles who displayed firearms.  The males proceeded to ride the bicycles in the direction of Somerville High School.  This incident prompted a shelter in place order by school officials, and a brief closure of the Central Library. 

Soon after the emergency call was received, a person fitting the description of one of the suspects was located by Police Officers and briefly detained.  This person was unarmed at that time.  A search of the of the area was conducted by Somerville Police and National Park Services Police K-9 units.  No firearm was located. 

The Somerville Police Department asks all members of the community to remain vigilant and call 911 immediately if a firearm is found anywhere in the City. Citizens should not touch a suspected firearm. If a suspected firearm is found, call 911 right away, and wait for Officers to arrive. 

The incident is currently under investigation. Anyone with relevant information on this incident is encouraged to please call 617-625-1600 ext. 7250.

Esta es una alerta de seguridad de armas de fuego de la policía de Somerville. El martes 6 de junio, aproximadamente a la 1:18 p.m., la policía de Somerville respondió al área de Edward Leathers Park y la escuela secundaria por un informe de dos hombres con armas de fuego que se dirigían en bicicleta hacia la escuela secundaria. La policía localizó a una persona que se ajustaba a la descripción de uno de los sospechosos y la detuvo brevemente. Esta persona estaba desarmada en ese momento. Este é um alerta de segurança da Polícia de Somerville para armas de fogo. Na terça-feira, 6 de junho, aproximadamente às 13h18, a Polícia de Somerville respondeu à área do Parque Edward Leathers e da Somerville High School por uma denúncia de dois homens com armas de fogo que seguiram de bicicleta em direção à Somerville High School. Uma pessoa que se encaixava na descrição de um dos suspeitos foi localizada pela polícia e detida brevemente. Essa pessoa estava desarmada naquele momento. Uma busca na área foi conduzida pela Polícia de Somerville e pelas unidades k-9 da Polícia de Serviços de Parques Nacionais. Nenhuma arma de fogo foi encontrada. 

O Departamento de Polícia pede a todos os membros da comunidade que permaneçam vigilantes e liguem para o 911 imediatamente se uma arma de fogo for encontrada em qualquer lugar da cidade. Os cidadãos não devem tocar em uma arma de fogo suspeita. Se uma arma de fogo suspeita for encontrada, ligue imediatamente para o 911 e aguarde a chegada dos policiais.
