SOMERVILLE - Ending the City's 2011 SomerStreets celebrations, "Monster Mashed-Up" will be held along Somerville Avenue from Washington Street to Beacon Street on Sunday, October 23rd from noon - 4:00 p.m. With 2 miles of roadway closed to vehicles, the October SomerStreets is the longest of the season and will include an Oktoberfest from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the Union Square end, live entertainment, safe trick-or-treating, a costume parade, chainsaw pumpkin carving demonstrations and much more.
The City is also seeking disc jockeys to participate in a "Monster Mashed-Up" competition and pay tribute to Somerville native Bobby "Boris" Pickett. We are looking for local DJs to spin short sets at SomerStreets and present your best mashup with Pickett's "Monster Mash." The City will provide a stage and sound equipment. All selected DJs will receive a $50 honorarium and the chance to compete for a grand prize---eternal bragging rights and a $100 gift certificate to Union Square's new Somerville Grooves vinyl shop. To register please contact Greg Jenkins at firstname.lastname@example.org by Thursday, October 20 with your name, contact information, and 2 sample mp3 of your mashup (or links to websites that feature your work).
