The CDC recommends everyone six months or older get a flu and COVID-19 vaccine unless otherwise advised by their doctor. You can learn more about each vaccine below: 

About influenza (flu) vaccines:

"Flu shots” protect against the four influenza viruses researchers believe will be most common during the upcoming season. Most flu vaccines are given with a needle, usually in the arm, but there are also is a nasal spray flu vaccines available. Find out more about flu shots from the CDC.

About COVID-19 vaccines: 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone 6 months and older get an updated COVID-19 vaccine to avoid potentially serious illnesses this fall and winter. Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna will soon release updated COVID-19 vaccines, as the virus is always changing, and protection from COVID-19 vaccines declines over time.

Free Vaccinations

Protect Yourself & Your Community: COVID-19 & Flu Vaccines Available in Somerville
The best way to reduce your risk from these respiratory viruses and their potentially serious complications is to get a flu and Covid-19 vaccine every year. Both flu and COVID-19 vaccines are conveniently offered at multiple locations across Somerville, improving access for all residents with no out-of-pocket costs. Please note: 

  • Vaccines are also offered to residents without health insurance. 
  • If you do have health insurance, please bring proof of coverage. 
  • Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. 
  • Walk-in appointments are limited.

Vaccines Offered:

  • Influenza (flu) (for anyone age 6 months and older)
  • High-Dose Influenza (for ages 65+)
  • Pfizer COVID-19 Updated 2024-25 Vaccine (for age 19 years and older)
  • Moderna COVID-19 Updated 2024-25 Vaccine (for age 18 years and younger)

Please note that clinics may be unable to accommodate your vaccine manufacturer preference. Current vaccine availability per age group is reflected in the Vaccines Offered subheading.  Flu and COVID-19 vaccines are available at the City clinics listed below (see table). 

Vaccines are also available at many pharmacies and other healthcare locations. Search for providers at vaccines.gov. Please note that pharmacies and other locations may charge fees for their services.

NOTE: Beginning September 26, U.S. households can order four free COVID tests for at-home testing. These test are delivered through the USPS. Visit COVIDTEsts.org to order your tests.

Other Ways To Get Vaccinated

In addition to the upcoming City of Somerville vaccination clinics above, you can get your vaccinations from local pharmacies or your doctor. Note, these options will likely include a fee, based on your health insurance. 

CHA and Mass General Brigham have vaccine sites in Somerville. CHA patients should call the CHA vaccine hotline at  (617) 665-1995 or sign up on MyChart for an appointment.  Mass General Brigham patients can sign up on the Patient Gateway.
