Somerville Urban Design Commission Seeks One Member
The City of Somerville seeks one new alternate member for the Urban Design Commission (UDC), and all Somerville residents are invited to apply. A background or interest in urban design, community planning, landscape design, or architecture is beneficial but not required.
The Urban Design Commission provides advice and recommendations on the design of development projects that affect the quality of Somerville’s public realm. The UDC has full members and alternate members. Alternate members participate in all discussions on items before the Commission and vote in the place of full members when full members are absent from a meeting. This is a volunteer position.
The UDC typically meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month for two to three hours at 6 p.m. Applications will be reviewed by the Mayor’s Appointments Advisory Committee. New members must be approved by the City Council. All Commissioners must comply with and sign the City of Somerville’s Code of Conduct for Board, Commission, and Committee Members.
Applications are due Tuesday, October 31. Interested residents should send a résumé and cover letter to planning@somervillema.gov or to the Planning, Preservation, & Zoning Division, Somerville City Hall, 93 Highland Ave., Somerville, MA 02143. Please contact planning@somervillema.gov or (617) 625-6600 ext. 2500 with questions.
