Statement of Duties
The Co-Director of the MB CIT TTAC (Metro Boston Crisis Intervention Team Training and Technical Assistance Center) will work in conjunction with the Director of the Community Outreach and Help & Recovery Unit (COHR) to standardize the MB CIT curriculum, and will facilitate and manage 50% of CIT classes. The Co-Director sets strategic goals and assists in managing staff and day to day operations, identifies and advances collaborations and process improvements, identifies community partners and training resources for CIT presentation, and shares best practices with high-level decision makers and influential community groups.
Essential Functions:
- Manage Somerville’s CIT-TTAC. Identify CIT collaborators, meets mandated training benchmarks and improve CIT training and outcomes for the metro-Boston region.
- Responsible for managing CIT for Boston Police Department and other new police partners.
- Identify and advance collaborations with government agencies and service providers to inform CIT training.
- Collaborate in the development of CIT “Train the Trainer” program for officers.
- Identify and develop advanced training topics for currently trained CIT Officers.
- Identify evidence-based best practices for prevention and harm reduction related to issues of mental health, addiction and co-occurring issues.
- Organize meetings with high-level decision makers to communicate crisis intervention and prevention best practices for target populations.
- Identify academic partners to participate in the development of CIT training for Public Safety.
- Provide guidance and assist in developing policy templates and case management systems for law enforcement partners.
- Identify or provide training to Public Safety partners including Fire, EMT and Emergency Department, and Psychiatric Emergency Services to further the mission of CIT.
- Supports Project Assistant in the development of content for MB CIT TTAC website.
- Participate in the development of stakeholder meetings for Police partners.
Recommended Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work, Psychology or other Licensed Mental Health certification (LICSW preferred).
- Five (5) years’ experience in clinical role, with a minimum of 3 years working with partners in the criminal justice system; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing the required knowledge, abilities and skills to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Prior experience of meaningful collaboration with sworn officers, City agencies, emergency services, service providers, community groups and academics.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skill
Knowledge: Must have demonstrated knowledge of current law enforcement and community intervention strategies.
Abilities: Ability to collaborate with and persuade decision makers through oral and written communication; ability to organize seminars and meetings to communicate training and findings to governmental and community organizations; ability to research, develop and update effective curriculum materials; ability to handle problems and emergencies effectively; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; ability to operate a computer; ability to maintain, manage, and organize records; ability to deal appropriately with employees, officials and members of the general public.
Skills: Excellent organizational skills; excellent data processing skill in the use of personal computers and office software including word and spreadsheet applications.
Work Environment
The work environment involves everyday discomforts typical of offices, with occasional exposure to outside elements. Noise or physical surroundings may be distracting, but conditions are generally not unpleasant. Employee may be required to work beyond normal business hours in response to attend evening meetings or complete work assignments.

Physical Skills
Few physical demands are required to perform the work. Work effort principally involves sitting to perform work tasks, with intermittent periods of stooping, walking, and standing. May also be some occasional lifting of objects such as office equipment and computer paper (up to 30 lbs.)
Motor Skills
Duties are largely mental rather than physical, but the job may occasionally require minimal motor skills for activities such as moving objects, operating a telephone, personal computer and/or most other office equipment including word processing, filing and sorting of papers.
Visual Skills
Visual demands require constantly reading documents for general understanding and analytical purposes.
