The City of Somerville seeks an LGBTQ Liaison who will work as a key outreach connector with the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender and questioning communities in Somerville. The LGBTQ Liaison reports to the Director of Human Services to identify projects and tasks to effectively support existing LGBTQ connections, create new partnerships, increase participation in City government by LGBTQ individuals and groups, and raise awareness about highest priority issues.
Responsibilities Include:
- Event organizing, social media development and maintenance (with support from the Communications Department),
- Youth group involvement, support of multigenerational relationships in partnership with the Council on Aging
- Supporting priorities of facilitators of the Somerville High School Gay/Straight and Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) and assisting with communication between the GSA and the Health and Human Services Department
- Other tasks as directed by the HHS supervisor.
Minimum Requirements:
- Excellent relationships within the LGBTQ community, allies, and service providers.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Excel, Access, Word, or similar software is required.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skill
Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of community-wide issues and also within the specific LGBTQ community.
Abilities:
- To organize and schedule own work priorities in a fast paced environment and refer conflicts to appropriate manager for review/resolution.
- Patience and sense of humor.
Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to compose and edit documents for clarity, grammar and spelling.
- Excellent organizational skills. Must be able to use and/or develop systems to monitor projects and keep track of multiple responsibilities.
- Bilingual or Multilingual skills preferred.
