Statement of Duties
The City of Somerville seeks a Recovery Coach/ Case Manager Intern is primarily responsible for providing outreach and follow- up for individuals impacted by addiction. The COHR program provides services primarily to adults with addiction and co-occurring mental health whose illness is the primary reason for their involvement in the criminal justice system. The focus of Recovery Coaching is to support individuals in building resilience with an emphasis on holistic wellness and assisting and exploring pathways of recovery. The intern will have the opportunity to conduct supportive assessments, development of community support meetings for adults age 18+ with varying levels of impairment, and serving as a liaison to connect individuals with community resources with a framework of recovery. Recovery Coach/Case Manager will also work with family members and provide supports and resources to assist family members in understanding the disease of addiction, informing family members of the value of family supports and treatment options.
The position will be based at the Police Department but will require frequent travel in the Somerville and the metro north area of Boston. Interns will be provided with 1hr of supervision/week as well as opportunities for group supervision. COHR supervisor will be a LICSW or LADC and will have a certificate in Recovery Coaching which will meet the state requirements for Recovery Coach Certification.
Administrative duties include maintaining an active referral database; maintaining case notes on each individual, collaboration with community members, providers, and police officers to assess needs and improve access services and self-care supports.
Essential Functions:
- Experience and knowledge regarding the addiction treatment service system, recovery coaching, and other related human services.
- Conduct needs assessments for clients referred and writes necessary documentation.
- Collaborate with community partners to provide group counseling to at risk clients regarding mental health and substance abuse. Groups can include educational, life skills, relapse prevention groups, relaxation and stress management.
- Coordinate and schedule case intervention reviews and engage in care consultation regarding specific clients with other staff, relatives and appropriate representatives of other agencies, including social service agencies, housing authorities, health care providers, courts and vocational issues.
- Make appropriate referrals and provide monitoring regarding the engagement process.
- Maintain active database of community resources including treatment and support programming. The database will be updated on a monthly basis.
Education and Experience:
- Completed Recovery Coach Academy and received a certificate.
- Enrolled in a higher education program focused on addiction and/or mental health.
- Bilingual in Portuguese, Spanish and or Haitian Creole preferred.
- Experience in working with individuals impacted by addiction.
Skills Required:
- Good written and verbal skills, computer skills, record keeping, and organizational skills.
- Ability to follow and enforce the policies and procedures of the program.
- Be able to work independently and be responsible.
