Frequently Asked Questions

Mayor Joseph Curtatone

On behalf of my fellow residents, I am delighted to welcome you to Somerville.  We’re proud of our history, our people and our vibrant sense of community.  Our vibrant civic life is firmly rooted in the diversity of our cultural roots and immigrant heritage.  And we’re adding exciting new chapters to our city’s story every day, with a fast-growing economy, a lively arts community and a commitment to innovation in municipal government and city services.

To help new residents and businesses get settled in Somerville, we’ve created this Web page to provide information and links that are especially relevant to new arrivals.

Please take a moment to read through the information on this page, and keep it book-marked for future reference. (To request a copy of the information on this page to be mailed to you, click here.)

If you have any additional questions, or problems, please don’t hesitate to call our 311 Constituent Services Center. This service – the first of its kind in New England – allows residents, businesses and visitors to call one number to make service requests, obtain city information, or be connected with a specific city department. Just dial 311 from any Somerville telephone (including cell phones within city limits), or 617-666-3311 from outside of the City. Operators who speak Creole, Portuguese, and Spanish are available during regular business hours.

We’re excited about Somerville’s future – and we’re glad you’re here.
