Mayor Joe Curtatone invites all Somerville residents to celebrate Summertime in Somerville. Available summer programming for residents of all ages continues to expand, with bigger, better, and more exciting events and programs every month. Check the schedule below for upcoming events!

Somerville Sunsetters
Location: Somerville streets - Monday thru Thursday evenings at sunset The Somerville Sunsetters are a youth performance troup, performing a mix of classic Broadway show tunes and modern musicals for residents throughout the summer. Comprised of 30 members, ages 11-18, the group is in its fourth season after being reinstated by Mayor Curtatone in the summer of 2005. The Sunsetters were a popular singing and dancing group throughout the 1970s and 80s, and has since made a popular comeback. In addition to shows in residential neighborhoods beginning June 26th, the group will perform at the city's Independence Day Fireworks Celebration, ArtBeat, and the Mayor's Senior Picnic. Independence Day Fireworks Celebration
Location: Trum Field, Broadway Thursday, June 26th, 6pm (Rain date Saturday, July 5th) This year's Independence Day Celebrations, complete with fireworks, will be the city's largest display to date. With added entertainment and fireworks, the event promises to be a resident favorite. Beginning at 6pm, events will include performances by performing group BOVA Productions, the Somerville Sunsetters, and a traveling USO performance troupe. Vendors selling toys and food will also line Broadway for the evening, which will be blocked off for the festivities. Fireworks will begin at approximately 9pm. Family Fun Day
Location: Trum Field, Broadway Saturday, June 28th, 10am Another of the city's popular family events, Family Fun Day includes a variety of activities for residents of all ages. Obstacle courses, games, watermelon eating contests, dancing, and a dunk tank are only a few examples of the day's events! Dunk the Mayor! Dunk your Alderman! Eat your weight in watermelon! SomerTime Day Program
Location: West Somerville Neighborhood School, 177 Powderhouse Blvd. July 7 - August 15, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm This fun-filled program for children ages 6-13 invloves a creative and flexible schedule of new activities which allow participants the opportunity to choose daily experiences such as swimming, rowing, specialized art classes and more. Weekly Field Trips and and a low ratio of participants/staff add up to a safe summer to remember! Breakfast and lunch are served daily. Fee is $125 per week. ArtBeat
Location: Davis Square, July 18 - 20 Artists and festival goers converge at Davis Square, transforming it into one of the area's largest and most innovative art festivals. This year's theme is GREEN! Artists of all kinds and community organizations will explore all things green in a variety of ways. There will be a "Different Spokes" bike exhibit, bike valet parking, a green architecture showcase, a Green Brigade Parade, and a roving tree. There will also be bands, dance, 100 craft vendors, food and art/green activities galore. For more information, view the full flyer here.
ArtsUnion
Location: Union Square For the fourth year, ArtsUnion will present a series of cultural events/performances; conduct weekend craft markets and cultural tours; commission local artisans to design streetscape furniture and lightscape projects; and implement the work surrounding a zoning/regulation review to further support the arts and distinct character of the square. SomerMovie FEST
Location: Davis Square, Conway Park, Prospect Hill Park, Hodgkins Park, Foss Park Thursday evenings at dusk Every Thursday night at dusk, beginning on July 10th, join fellow Somerville residents for the annual, summer-long “movie in the park” festival. Each week, different Hollywood movies will be shown at parks throughout the City – including Seven Hills Park in Davis Square, Conway Park on Somerville Ave., Foss Park on McGrath Highway, Hodgkins Park in Teele Square, and Prospect Hill Park in Union Square.
Mayor's Senior Picnic
Location: Nathan Tufts Park, Powderhouse Circle Wednesday, Augst 13th, 11am The Mayor's Senior Picnic is an annual event, inviting all Somerville senior citizens to enjoy a picnic lunch in the park complete with music, entertainment, food, and dancing. Sponsored by Mayor Curtatone and the Somerville Council on Aging, the Picnic is one of the year's largest events. Click here for photos from the 2007 Picnic.
FARMER’S MARKETS
Location: Union Square & Davis Square Somerville’s weekly Farmer’s Markets provide a great opportunity for urban farmers and local organizations to reach out to the community, as well as a terrific place to meet friends and neighbors! Local farmers from all over Massachusetts offer fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and baked goods every week from June through October in both Union and Davis Squares. Farmers Markets also offer musical performances and community activities for the whole family. Davis Square Market: Wednesdays, Noon-7pm (May 28 - November 26) Union Square Market: Saturdays, 9am-1pm (June 7 thru October 25)
Library Events
Location: East, West, and Central Branches The Somerville Public Libraries have a wide variety of events and programs for families throughout the summer, including Story Times, Book Discussions, Workshops, and Concert Series. COMMUNITY GROWING CENTER
Location: Vinal Avenue The Center provides a hands-on learning experience for local youth to learn about the natural world, science, community service and cultural issues. In addition to educational programming, the Growing Center also hosts seasonal concert series, open to all residents.
