The City of Somerville received 16,650 free at-home rapid COVID-19 test kits from the state that are being distributed via various channels to Somerville residents who have limited access to testing, limited means to purchase at-home tests, and are at high risk of exposure.

Somerville’s outgoing and incoming Mayors jointly announced the City’s first major allocation of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars today, dedicating $9 million in funding to childcare, rental assistance, and a Universal Basic Income pilot project. This joint commitment by Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and Mayor-elect Katjana Ballantyne comes after the City’s initial round of community engagement seeking to identify priorities for ARPA funding.

As we enter the darkest season of the year, an alleyway in Union Square will be lit by a large-scale light sculpture called Iluminaciones by Zebbler Studios. The pixel-mapped LED sculpture debut will be the evening of Thursday, December 9, to kick off the Somerville Arts Council’s month-long Illuminations celebration. Iluminaciones can be found between 329 and 341 Somerville Avenue.

Please join Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and Ward 2 Councilor J.T. Scott for a ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of the Conway Park athletic field on Thursday, December 9, at 1 p.m.
To date, this complex project has achieved several critical milestones: The retaining wall has been repaired, contaminants have been removed (with the help of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency), and the athletic field, which features a plant-based infill, has been installed and surrounded with new trees.
