Deadline to Register for State Primary Election is Aug. 19

With the Thursday, September 8, state primary quickly approaching, the City of Somerville would like to remind residents that the deadline for registering to vote in that election is Friday, August 19, 2016, at 5 p.m. This is also the deadline for voters wanting to change party affiliation.

Residents may register to vote by visiting the Election Department at Somerville City Hall, calling 617-625-6600 x4200 to have a voter registration form mailed, or by going to www.registertovotema.com. Online applications require a valid ID issued by the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV), as well as a signature on file with the RMV.

This year the state primary election falls on a Thursday – different from the typical Tuesday election day – and there are limited races on the ballot. Voters will elect candidates to the offices of U.S. Representative in Congress, Councillor, Senator in General Court, Representative in General Court, and Sheriff.

As an additional note, the City would also like to remind residents that the voter registration deadline for the November 8, 2016, presidential election is Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at 8 p.m.

Individuals with disabilities who need auxiliary aids and services for effective communication, written materials in alternative formats, or reasonable modifications in policies and procedures, in order to access the programs and activities of the City of Somerville or to attend meetings, should contact the City’s ADA Coordinator, Betsy Allen, at 617-625-6600 x2323 or BAllen@somervillema.gov.
