Conway Park Contamination and PIP Plan Information Session 5/29

A public information session regarding contamination at Conway Park will be held on Wednesday, May 29, at the Public Safety Building (Police Headquarters) at 220 Washington Street, at 6:30 p.m. The purpose of the Meeting is to present the Draft Public Involvement Plan (PIP) for the Site in accordance with 310 CMR 40.1405 (5)(a)(2), provide an update with respect to Site activities, and to solicit feedback from the public.

Spring 2019 ResiStat Meeting Schedule Announced

City of Somerville Seeking Climate Forward Ambassadors

The City of Somerville is seeking community members looking for an opportunity to learn something new, get more involved in the community, and become local leaders as Climate Forward Ambassadors. The City's Office of Sustainability and Environment (OSE) is launching the new ambassador program to educate a diverse group of Somerville residents about climate change. The goal is to increase the Somerville community’s capacity to engage in climate action.

Annual Observance of Memorial Day as we honor and remember our fallen heroes. 69 heroes from World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the 1983 Beirut Bombing are laid to rest here in the Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery. This ceremony provides an opportunity for our City to come together the honor the service and sacrifice of all who serve.

West Branch Library Renovation Groundbreaking, Thursday, April 25, 11:30 a.m.

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, Ward 6 Councilor Lance Davis, and Somerville Library Director Cathy Piantigini invite you to celebrate the start of renovations to the West Branch Library at a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, April 25, at 11:30 a.m., at 40 College Avenue in Davis Square. Once work is completed, the West Branch will be accessible, will include community meeting space, and will be set up to meet modern library and community needs while preserving historic features.

Medford St. Bridge to Close Friday, May 17, 2019, Through Spring 2020

The Medford St. bridge, in Gilman Square behind Somerville High School (SHS), will close for construction starting Friday, May 17. It’s expected to remain closed through the spring of 2020. 

For the duration of this closure, all traffic will be detoured around the work zone via Pearl St. and McGrath Highway. Detour maps and directions are available on in the Bridge Closures section.

Somerville Spring Cleanup Scheduled for Saturday, May 4

Join the City of Somerville, Groundwork Somerville, and Comcast Cares for the annual Spring Cleanup, on Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to noon. All participants are invited to meet at the Blessing of the Bay Boat House on Shore Drive from 9 to 10 a.m. for breakfast, a short speaking programs, and information from local environmental organizations before heading out to cleanup sites.

Third Annual SustainaVille Week Celebrates the Environment and Going Green, April 27-May 4

Join Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, Somerville’s SustainaVille program, and other City and community partners in celebrating the third annual SustainaVille week. From Saturday, April 27 through Saturday, May 4, there will be a variety of activities for all ages celebrating sustainability and climate action. Activities include an Arbor Day and Gardening Fair, a self-guided citywide sustainability tour, and an interactive panel discussion about the changing world of waste and recycling. Patriots’ Day Celebration, April 15 at Foss Park

Celebrate Patriots’ Day at the City’s annual festivities at Foss Park on Mon., April 15. “Paul Revere” will stop by during a reenactment of his historic ride from Boston to Lexington. Attendees can also enjoy the Colonial Fair where they can play games and complete a “Colonial Passport.” There will be Colonial-era refreshments and music by the Somerville High School band.
