Reminder: Medford St. Bridge Closes 5/17 Through Spring 2020 for GLX Work

As part of the Green Line Extension project, the Medford St. bridge, behind Somerville High School, will close to all traffic starting Friday, May 17, at about 9 p.m. Crews will be onsite through about 2 a.m. Saturday setting up the closure. This bridge is expected to reopen in the spring of 2020.

Work within the MBTA rail right-of-way is not subject to the City’s noise ordinance, but pile driving and demolition operations are contractually prohibited between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Spring 2019 ResiStat Meeting Schedule Announced

The City of Somerville is seeking community members looking for an opportunity to learn something new, get more involved in the community, and become local leaders as Climate Forward Ambassadors. The City's Office of Sustainability and Environment (OSE) is launching the new ambassador program to educate a diverse group of Somerville residents about climate change. The goal is to increase the Somerville community’s capacity to engage in climate action.

Curtatone, Ward 6 Councilor Lance Davis, and Somerville Library Director Cathy Piantigini invite you to celebrate the start of renovations to the West Branch Library at a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, April 25, at 11:30 a.m., at 40 College Avenue in Davis Square. Once work is completed, the West Branch will be accessible, will include community meeting space, and will be set up to meet modern library and community needs while preserving historic features.

Medford St. Bridge to Close Friday, May 17, 2019, Through Spring 2020

The Medford St. bridge, in Gilman Square behind Somerville High School (SHS), will close for construction starting Friday, May 17. It’s expected to remain closed through the spring of 2020. 

For the duration of this closure, all traffic will be detoured around the work zone via Pearl St. and McGrath Highway. Detour maps and directions are available on www.mass.gov/GLX in the Bridge Closures section.

Somerville Spring Cleanup Scheduled for Saturday, May 4

Join the City of Somerville, Groundwork Somerville, and Comcast Cares for the annual Spring Cleanup, on Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to noon. All participants are invited to meet at the Blessing of the Bay Boat House on Shore Drive from 9 to 10 a.m. for breakfast, a short speaking programs, and information from local environmental organizations before heading out to cleanup sites.

Patriots’ Day Celebration, April 15 at Foss Park

Celebrate Patriots’ Day at the City’s annual festivities at Foss Park on Mon., April 15. “Paul Revere” will stop by during a reenactment of his historic ride from Boston to Lexington. Attendees can also enjoy the Colonial Fair where they can play games and complete a “Colonial Passport.” There will be Colonial-era refreshments and music by the Somerville High School band. Community Update on City of Somerville - Tufts Partnership Agreement Negotiations 4/16

Members of the public are invited to attend and speak at a Public Hearing on traffic safety, traffic calming, and the Traffic Calming Petition submitted by the Somerville Pedestrian and Transit Advocacy Group and signed by approximately 350 people. The hearing will take place on Wednesday, April 3, at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
