Public Hearing to Discuss Removal of Remaining Trees for Beacon Street Reconstruction Project, April 23

The City of Somerville Tree Warden invites all interested residents and community members to a public hearing on Monday, April 23, to discuss the upcoming removal of six trees as part of the construction process for the Beacon Street Reconstruction Project. The hearing will begin at 6 p.m. at the Public Safety Building, 220 Washington St. These trees are the remaining trees to be removed by Newport Construction as part of the approved project plans.

Public Hearing on Proposed Zoning Overhaul Rescheduled for April 3

Members of the public are invited to attend a public hearing by the Somerville Planning Board and the Board of Aldermen’s Land Use Committee on Tuesday, April 3, at 6 p.m., to provide feedback. The hearing will be held in the Aldermanic Chambers on the second floor of City Hall, 93 Highland Ave. Feedback can also be submitted online at www.somervillezoning.com, where detailed information on the overhaul, timeline, and upcoming meetings and events are also available.

As a follow up to this report, the City and CHA are working together to better understand the healthcare service needs and health priorities of the Somerville community. Rescheduled Grand Union Flag Raising on Prospect Hill Set for March 4

After having to be canceled due to extreme cold, Somerville’s annual Grand Union Flag Raising is back! The event, rescheduled from January 1 to March 4, 2018, will kick off with a procession from City Hall to Prospect Hill Tower, followed by a reenactment ceremony for the 242nd anniversary of the "Grand Union" flag-raising ceremony at Prospect Hill Park.

A walkthrough landscape meeting will be held on Saturday, February 24, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the West Branch Library, 40 College Ave. A full community meeting will be held on Monday, February 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Community Baptist Church located at 31 College Ave. where we will review and discuss the findings from the walkthrough.

Somerville Seeks Members and Advisors for Internet Task Force

SOMERVILLE – The City of Somerville is forming an Internet Access Task Force to explore options to preserve and expand affordable and neutral internet service across the City. Community members interested in serving as members are encouraged to apply. Area experts willing to serve as occasional or one-time advisors are also sought for a wide range of knowledge areas from public utilities management and small cell technology to federal communications policy.
