Public Meeting to Discuss Next Phase of Construction on Somerville Ave., June 4 (UPDATE: MEETING POSTPONED)

 Please note: This meeting has been postponed. More information will be provided when it’s been rescheduled. Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, Ward 2 City Councilor J.T. Scott, and Ward 3 City Councilor Ben Ewen-Campen invite you to a public meeting for an update on the Somerville Ave. Utilities & Streetscape Improvements project and ongoing construction in the Union Square area. The meeting will be held Tuesday, June 4, at 6 p.m. in the Academy Room at the Somerville Public Safety Building, 220 Washington St.

Reminder: Medford St. Bridge Closes 5/17 Through Spring 2020 for GLX Work

 As part of the Green Line Extension project, the Medford St. bridge, behind Somerville High School, will close to all traffic starting Friday, May 17, at about 9 p.m. Crews will be onsite through about 2 a.m. Saturday setting up the closure. This bridge is expected to reopen in the spring of 2020. Work within the MBTA rail right-of-way is not subject to the City’s noise ordinance, but pile driving and demolition operations are contractually prohibited between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Night Market and Live Music Series Kicks Off in Union Square

 Join the Somerville Arts Council and the Somerville Flea for a roaming series of three night markets that will take place throughout the city between May and July. The after-hours pop-up markets will feature live music as well as artisan and vintage vendors, and more, in Union Square, Ball Square, and Winter Hill.

West Branch Library Renovation Groundbreaking, Thursday, April 25, 11:30 a.m.

 Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, Ward 6 Councilor Lance Davis, and Somerville Library Director Cathy Piantigini invite you to celebrate the start of renovations to the West Branch Library at a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, April 25, at 11:30 a.m., at 40 College Avenue in Davis Square. Once work is completed, the West Branch will be accessible, will include community meeting space, and will be set up to meet modern library and community needs while preserving historic features.

Medford St. Bridge to Close Friday, May 17, 2019, Through Spring 2020

 The Medford St. bridge, in Gilman Square behind Somerville High School (SHS), will close for construction starting Friday, May 17. It’s expected to remain closed through the spring of 2020.  For the duration of this closure, all traffic will be detoured around the work zone via Pearl St. and McGrath Highway. Detour maps and directions are available on www.mass.gov/GLX in the Bridge Closures section.

Somerville Spring Cleanup Scheduled for Saturday, May 4

 Join the City of Somerville, Groundwork Somerville, and Comcast Cares for the annual Spring Cleanup, on Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to noon. All participants are invited to meet at the Blessing of the Bay Boat House on Shore Drive from 9 to 10 a.m. for breakfast, a short speaking programs, and information from local environmental organizations before heading out to cleanup sites.

Patriots’ Day Celebration, April 15 at Foss Park

 Celebrate Patriots’ Day at the City’s annual festivities at Foss Park on Mon., April 15. “Paul Revere” will stop by during a reenactment of his historic ride from Boston to Lexington. Attendees can also enjoy the Colonial Fair where they can play games and complete a “Colonial Passport.” There will be Colonial-era refreshments and music by the Somerville High School band. Community Update on City of Somerville - Tufts Partnership Agreement Negotiations 4/16

 The public is invited to a community update on the status of negotiations between the City and Tufts University for a new Partnership Agreement between the City and the university. Hosted by Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and the members of the Mayor’s Tufts Partnership Negotiating Committee, the update will be held on Tuesday, April 16, at 7 p.m.

Public Hearing on Traffic Calming and Pedestrian Safety April 3 at 6 p.m.

 Members of the public are invited to attend and speak at a Public Hearing on traffic safety, traffic calming, and the Traffic Calming Petition submitted by the Somerville Pedestrian and Transit Advocacy Group and signed by approximately 350 people. The hearing will take place on Wednesday, April 3, at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
