Now that medical marijuana is legal in Massachusetts, the City of Somerville has established a Medical Marijuana Treatment Facility Advisory Committee, which includes representatives from the City’s Department of Health and Human Services, the Planning Department, and the Police Department. The Advisory Committee will serve to administer a fair and objective municipal review process for all parties interested in opening a Medical Marijuana Treatment Facility in Somerville.

The Somerville High School Building Committee has two upcoming meetings planned where residents can learn more about options for future plans for Somerville High School and share their comments.

A regular meeting of the Building Committee is scheduled for Monday, March 14, at 5:30 p.m. at the Kennedy School, 5 Cherry St. This meeting will include updates on the process so far, information on what’s coming next, and an opportunity for public comment.

Urban Agriculture Ambassador Program Seeking Applicants for 2016

The City of Somerville is sponsoring the 2016 Urban Agriculture Ambassador Program (UAAP). Taught by Green City Growers, a Somerville-based urban agriculture company, the program is now seeking applicants for the 2016 class. The UAAP, which started as a pilot in 2013, will train 20 residents in urban growing techniques in exchange for 30 hours of volunteer service in garden projects across the city.

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone invites all interested persons to two presentations and discussions on the City’s Athletic Fields Master Planning process on March 9 and 15. City park planners, Recreation staff, and SomerStat analysts will share data on permitted field usage citywide, discuss factors that guide field planning and maintenance, and lay out recommendations for field improvements and maintenance investments. Curtatone joined Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti today in announcing his membership in the Mayors’ National Climate Action Agenda (MNCAA), along with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, and Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, bringing the total to 32 mayors and cities across the United States.

Join the City of Somerville for the fifth annual Somerville Bulb Blitz on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. to noon, and help prepare your neighborhood for a bright and colorful spring 2016! Residents are invited to join City staff to plant bulbs that will bloom in Spring 2016. Since the Bulb Blitz began in 2011, residents have planted more than 12,300 bulbs citywide!
