Reopening Information for Phase 3 Businesses

Businesses Eligible to Open 9/8

  • Fitness facilities & health clubs
  • Motion picture, television, streaming productions
  • Martial arts & dance facilities
  • Non-athletic instructional classes

Activities Remaining on Hold

  • Movie theaters
  • Outdoor theaters & outdoor performance venues
  • Indoor recreation (Health & Safety Plan may be submitted at any time.)
  • Museums & indoor Historical Sites (Health & Safety Plan may be submitted at any time.)
  • All Phase 3 Step 2 businesses and Phase 4 businesses, which have still not been opened at the state level. 

In order for businesses to reopen, they must follow the following requirements:

  • Must meet all applicable Commonwealth guidelines.
  • Must meet all applicable Somerville guidelines.
  • Must submit to Inspectional Services and receive written approval for required documentation. This documentation can be submitted as early as August 31 for review, although reopening dates are still to be determined. 
    • COVID-19 Control Plan Template
    • Health & Safety Plan (HASP) (See below for industry specific links)
    • Layout Plan - This may be a hand drawn layout of your space, but it must be drawn to scale and show how operations will work following COVID restrictions.
  • Once Inspectional Services approves, print the HASP and Layout Plan and keep copies of these on site at your business. Once you receive approval, you may still need to await for the official reopening date, to be announced.
