Statement of Duties
The Talent Acquisition Manager is responsible for the overall hiring process for the City of Somerville. Employee is required to perform all similar or related duties.
- Communicate with hiring managers and interview panel members the steps of the interview process and legal requirements associated.
- Update job descriptions as vacancies occur.
- Advertise vacancies.
- Work closely with local organizations, Director of Veterans Services, Manager of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and other entities or parties on ideal places to advertise reaching a diverse candidate pool.
- Review resumes / applications and identify candidates meeting minimum qualifications for positions.
- Review and approve standardized questions for the interview process. Lead interview process.
- Listen to panel feedback and provide feedback to Director of Personnel on candidate interviews.
- Conduct reference checks. Work with the Mayor’s executive office to schedule final interviews.
- Extend offers to candidates.
- Ensure selection and offers comply with Federal, State, and Local regulations and hiring policies.
- Attend community events and job fairs to promote job opportunities.
- Review bids related to union postings.
- Assist in the administrative process for civil service public safety hiring as assigned.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience: Associates Degree and three to five (3-5) years’ experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. SHRM-CP or HRCI-PHR certification preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skill
Knowledge: Understanding of Federal and State regulations including but not limited to FLSA, ADA, MCAD, and EEO. Comprehensive understanding of best hiring practices. Knowledge of community based programs and workforce development initiatives.
Ability: Ability to handle problems effectively; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; ability to operate a personal computer; ability to maintain confidential information; ability to maintain, manage, and organize records; ability to communicate appropriately with City employees, City officials and members of the general public. Connect and collaborate with local community based organizations and internal stakeholders to create talent pipelines.
Skill: Strong interpersonal skills; excellent communication skills both oral and written; proficient computer skills for all office software programs including word processing and spread sheet applications. Bilingual skills in Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian-Creole or Nepali preferred.
The work environment involves everyday discomforts typical of offices, with occasional exposure to outside elements. Noise or physical surroundings may be distracting, but conditions are generally not unpleasant. Employee may be required to work beyond normal business hours in response to attend evening meetings or complete work assignments.

Few physical demands are required to perform the work. Work effort principally involves sitting to perform work tasks, with intermittent periods of stooping, walking, and standing. May also be some occasional lifting of objects such as office equipment and computer paper (up to 30 lbs.)
Duties are largely mental rather than physical, but the job may occasionally require minimal motor skills for activities such as moving objects, operating a telephone, personal computer and/or most other office equipment including word processing, filing and sorting of papers.
Visual demands require constantly reading documents for general understanding and analytical purposes.
