2015 Somerville Election Schedule Announced

2015 SOMERVILLE ELECTION SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED

Nomination papers available beginning May 11 for this fall’s election

SOMERVILLE –Somerville residents interested in running for Mayor, the Board of Aldermen or School Committee may take out nomination papers starting on Monday, May 11, for this fall’s municipal election, Somerville Election Commission Chairman Nicholas Salerno announced today along with the 2015 Somerville election schedule.

Nomination papers will be available through Monday, June 22, and can be picked up at the Elections Office on the lower level of City Hall, 93 Highland Ave. Completed nomination papers are due to the Board of Election Commissioners by Wednesday, June 24, along with the prospective candidate’s statement of financial interest.

To avoid conflicting with the religious holiday calendar, instead of the usual Tuesday date, the preliminary election is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 17, and the General Election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3. A person may register to vote if they are a United States citizen, resident of Massachusetts and 18 years old on or before Election Day. To vote in any primaries and elections, residents must be registered no later than 20 days before, which sets the following deadlines for this year’s elections:

  • Preliminary Election deadline to register to vote: Friday, Aug. 28

  • General Election deadline to register to vote: Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Residents can find information about registering to vote and can look up their polling place on the Election Department’s website at somervillema.gov/elections. Questions may be directed to the Elections Department by calling 617-625-6600 ext. 4200 or emailing elections@somervillema.gov.
