SRA Board Seeking New Member
City Seeking Applications for Vacant Somerville Redevelopment Authority Position
SOMERVILLE – The Somerville Redevelopment Authority (SRA) is seeking applicants to fill a current vacancy in the five-member board. The SRA is an entity created under the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The SRA has a total of five members, four of whom are appointed by the Mayor and one of whom is appointed by the Governor. The members serve staggered terms of three years each. Each member must be a Somerville resident.
Under Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 121B, redevelopment authorities have the power to declare that an area is substandard, decadent, and/or blighted, to prepare an urban renewal plan for the redevelopment of that area, and to implement the goals of that plan. In recent years, the SRA has been instrumental in the success of the Assembly Row project and, most recently, the Union Square Revitalization Plan.
Interested applicants should send a statement of interest and resume to planning@somervillema.gov by Friday, Nov. 7. Ideal candidates will have experience in any or all of the following fields: community planning; public transportation; transit-oriented development; real estate development; housing or financial services; and design and architecture.
