Assembly Fire Station

The City is fitting out a new fire station on the corner of Middlesex Avenue and Foley Street in Assembly Square. The City Council approved the lease in Fall 2021 and the tenant fit out will start in 2023. The 10,000 square foot, first floor, fire station will be part of a larger development.

The space will have three apparatus bays including turnout and decontamination rooms, a dayroom and kitchen, a fitness room, and individual bunk rooms. The fossil-fuel-free firehouse will have environmentally sustainable features including:

  • Air-source heat pumps
  • Energy recovery unit
  • Red-list-free materials

The fire station will be the first new station in Somerville in over a generation which will be reflected in the design. The firehouse is part of a larger, mixed-use building and features glass apparatus doors and storefront so it will interact with the street front. The firehouse will serve as a welcoming presence at a key entry road into the neighborhood.
