About the Economic Development Division

Somerville is known as a City of makers, where the elements of creativity combined with the know-how of an industrial past generates a culture of invention like no other. This is a town where “made in Somerville” means something more.

We are committed to fostering the growth of a resilient economic base that is centered around transit, job creation, private investment, talent attraction and development and secures fiscal self-sufficiency. Economic Development improves and stabilizes Somerville's economy by providing business assistance to existing and emerging businesses. This division plays a role in the redevelopment and enhancement of specific neighborhoods in the city through infrastructure and Brownfield cleanup projects. We actively develop areas in the city to promote the growth of industry clusters and innovation.
