The Department of Health and Human Services is very excited to partner with Riverside Trauma Center to offer this 2-day virtual training in Psychological First Aid and Post Traumatic Stress Management, free of charge to those who work and live in Somerville.  

The purpose of this training is to provide attendees with skills to support those that have been impacted by a traumatic event, both youth and adults. This training would be beneficial for school staff, youth workers and service providers, human service workers, nurses, juvenile justice and law enforcement personnel, clergy, social workers, and anyone providing services in a support capacity.

Training Provided by Riverside Trauma Center: http://riversidetraumacenter.org/

Trainers: Marlene Kenney, LICSW, MA: Marlene has 17 years of experience as a trauma clinician working with children, teens, and families. She has provided therapy to survivors of sexual assault, bullying, terrorist attacks, suicide, and other traumatic loss. At Riverside Trauma Center, she conducts trainings on resilience, crisis management, and suicide prevention and postvention, and is a Trauma Responder providing support and consultation to schools, communities, and individuals after traumatic events. She is an EMDR International Association Approved Consultant and practitioner of EMDR therapy, and trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and Trauma-Focused CBT. Her Social Work Master’s degree is from the National School of Social Service at the National Catholic University and her Master’s degree in Anthropology is from Northeastern University. Waheeda Saif, LMHC: Waheeda has worked with adolescents and adults for over 10 years, providing therapy to survivors of abuse, sexual assault, and domestic violence. Prior to that, she served as a Guardian ad Litem for the Florida court system. She has been with Riverside Trauma Center since 2008, providing consultation after traumatic events, as well as conducting trainings on a range of issues regarding trauma and suicide. She served as a Team Leader in our FEMA-funded response to the tornados in central and western Massachusetts in 2011. Waheeda is trained specifically in trauma therapy modalities, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). She has a graduate degree in Mental Health Counseling from Boston College.
