Local nonprofit organization som|dog, will bring its first-ever “Spring Fling” event to Union Square on Sunday, May 19 for an afternoon of fun for canines and their companions.
The event will host activities, unique
vendors, a Frisbee demonstration, Dog Treat Bakeoff contest judged by Polka Dog
Bakery, a fashion show presented by RiverDog, live music featuring Ryan Taylor
Band, American Echoes, and 80’s Reunion, craft beer provided by Smuttynose
Brewing and a Kiddie Corner with crafts, face-painting and much more. Local
trainers will host education sessions for children to learn appropriate ways to
interact with canines and be onsite to consult with your behavior questions.
Patrons are encouraged to bring their dog
in costume for a chance to win prizes throughout the day. Original dog treat
recipes are still being accepted through May 1 to enter the Dog Treat Bakeoff
Contest.
The “Spring Fling” will be held from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m., and is free and open to the public thanks to the City of
Somerville, Crate Escape and
The Precinct. Attendees are
encouraged to bring an in-kind donation for Somerville Animal
Control. Somerville Animal Control is in need of dry dog and cat food, kitty
litter, towels and blankets. Linens can be second-hand, but clean.
Tickets for the Beer Bark Garden can be
purchased in advance; $20 for non-members includes two drink tickets and a
year-long membership to som|dog with discounts to local businesses, $10 for
members, includes two drink tickets. Membership cards must be presented at the

Well-mannered and leashed dogs welcome.
For safety, no flexi leads or prong collars please. This is a rain or shine
event.
