The City of Somerville seeks an Electrician for the Lights & Lines Division of the Department of Public Works (DPW) to perform skilled electrical work at the journeyman level, outdoors in all types of weather.The Electrician job duties are as follows: install, test, repair and maintain electrical circuits, wiring systems, fixtures, appliances and equipment, street lights, traffic signals, fire alarm and dig safe markings.  Troubleshoot and repair faulty electrical wiring, defective electrical equipment and machinery such as motors, generators, transformers, switches, sockets, etc. Inspect and test circuits and fixtures to locate broken wires, loose connections, blown fuses, faulty switches, grounds, shorts and other defects. Use common hand tools and electrical OHM test equipment such as meters, voltmeters, ammeters, growlers, multimeters, and other test equipment. May remove, replace, and repair electrical parts. May maintain storage batteries. Perform supervision over helpers and apprentices. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Must have knowledge of trade practices and safety regulations.
  • Must be able to make oral and written reports of work performed.
  • Must possess a current valid Massachusetts Journeyman Electrician License.
  • Must possess a current valid Massachusetts Class D driver’s license.
