Parking Control Officer (Tues-Sat evening shift)
The City of Somerville seeks a Parking Control Officer for a Tuesday - Saturday evening shift. The Parking Control Officer performs duties required for the enforcement of all parking rules and regulations. Under supervision and instruction, tickets illegally parked vehicles on overtime meters. Tickets for violation of resident paring ordinance; violation of street cleaning ordinance and violation of snow plowing and removal ordinances and violation all other restricted areas. Patrols assigned areas on foot. Use of a vehicle only as directed by Supervisor. Prepares reports related to enforcement duties. Performs related duties as required.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to read and write in English
- Ability to understand and interpret parking regulations and ordinances
- Ability to walk considerable distances daily
- Ability to pass a physical examination
- Must possess a valid current Class D Driver’s License
- Access to an automobile during all work hours
- Bi-Lingual and/or bi-cultural experience helpful

Physical Skills: Position requires standing, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires both near and far vision and acute hearing. Additionally the position entails working outdoors, in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold and incumbents may be exposed to fumes, dust and air containments. The need to lift, push and drag equipment weighing up to 25 pounds is also required.
Motor Skills: While performing the duties, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or new skills; work under deadlines with constant interruptions; interact with City staff and other organizations; and occasionally deal with dissatisfied or quarrelsome individuals.
Visual Skills: Visual demands require constantly reading documents for general understanding and analytical purposes.
