Senior Clerk
The DPW Senior Clerk assists the Department Superintendents in the administration of their department by performing highly responsible administrative and clerical functions.
Essential Functions
Responsible for the relaying of administrative information and directives to respective divisions and outside agencies. Assists in the preparation of statistical and administrative reports. Performs clerical duties as required by the Superintendents in Public Works. Under minimum supervision performs a variety of complex clerical duties of more than ordinary difficulty and individual responsibility involving general knowledge of standard office procedures, regulations and practices. Operates computer; prepares forms and other documents; performs filing as needed. Responsible for posting and maintaining general departmental records, answering telephones, and providing general information, interact with the general public, vendors and contractors, and various internal and external agencies. Perform other duties as assigned. Performs other related duties as directed by the Commissioner of Public Works.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalency.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Munis.
- Ability to learn and use a customer relationship management system (311 work orders); experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of the functions of the department.
- Ability to provide detailed answers to inquiries/311 and/or refer calls to appropriate personnel.
- Ability to pleasantly and efficiently communicate with the public in person, by email and on the telephone.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
Work Environment
The work environment involves everyday discomforts typical of offices, with occasional exposure to outside elements. Noise or physical surroundings may be distracting, but conditions are generally not unpleasant.

Physical Skills
Little or no physical demands are required to perform the work. Work effort principally involves sitting to perform work tasks, with intermittent periods of stooping, walking, and standing. There may also be some occasional lifting of objects such as books, office equipment and computer paper (up to 30 lbs.)
Motor Skills
Duties are largely mental rather than physical, but the job may occasionally require minimal motor skills for activities such as moving objects, operating a telephone system, computer and/or most other office equipment, typing and/or word processing, filing, and sorting.
Visual Skills
Visual demands include constantly reading documents for general understanding and for analytical purposes.
