Community Invited to Learn More About Somerville’s Updated Climate Forward Plan

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne is moving forward a wave of new climate action policies and programs as announced as part of the City’s 2024 SustainaVille Week. The City’s new goals and policies to help were announced on Wednesday, April 24, as part of a community celebration for the updated community climate action plan.

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the City Council invite Somerville community members to the inaugural "Slice of the City" meet-up series. This new series of family-friendly pizza parties in the parks offers attendees a new way to connect and engage with city leaders and staff as well as neighbors all while enjoying Somerville’s parks.

Mayor Ballantyne Announcing Public Interviews for Somerville Police Chief Candidates

Residents, community members invited to attend and share feedback to help select Somerville’s next Chief of Police

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and Somerville Police Chief Search Committee are inviting all community members to attend public interview sessions with candidates under consideration to be the next Chief of Police for the City of Somerville on Thursday, May 9, 2024. All interviews will take place in-person at Somerville City Hall (93 Highland Ave.) between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., with a final schedule to be shared with the community in the coming days.

About the Event

All City offices are closed. Trash and recycling pickup will be delayed by one day.

Mayor Ballantyne Announcing 2024 Somerville Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Ceremony

Community Encouraged to Sign Up as Volunteers and Parade Participants

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and the Somerville Department of Veterans’ Services are announcing that Somerville’s Memorial Day parade will be held on Sunday, May 26. 
The parade will step off at 11 a.m. from Davis Square, proceeding west on Holland Street through Teele Square and onto Broadway, ending at the Veterans Cemetery between Alewife Brook Parkway and North Street.

Mayor Ballantyne Inviting Somerville Class of 2024 to Apply for Municipal Scholarship Opportunity

Five scholarships available to Somerville Residents Currently Graduating in Class of 2024 Application Period Closes May 1, 2024

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, and the City of Somerville Municipal Scholarship Committee are reminding Somerville residents graduating high school in 2024 to apply now for five municipal scholarship opportunities. Selected applicants will receive $1,000 to help with post-secondary education expenses. 

To qualify for consideration, students must be in high school, a resident of the City of Somerville at the time the financial aid is awarded, and be accepted to an accredited post-secondary institution.
