COVID-19 Vaccine Q&A - April 14, 2021

Somerville residents and workers were invited to join a virtual (online and phone) COVID-19 Vaccine Q&A hosted by the Somerville Health and Human Services Department and the Cambridge Health Alliance on Wednesday, April 14 at 7 p.m.

During the virtual event, a panel including health care providers and Health and Human Services staff, provided information about the COVID-19 vaccines including how they work, vaccine safety and efficacy, what to expect when getting your COVID-19 vaccine, and when and how to get a vaccine. Participants also had the opportunity to ask the panel questions about the vaccines.


Civilian Oversight of Police: First Community Meeting -  March 24, 2021

On March 24, 2021, the Somerville City Council held the first public information session on establishing a community process for civilian oversight of police. The meeting was held via Zoom, with live interpretation provided in Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Nepali, and Vietnamese. You can watch a video recording of the meeting below.


Structural Racism Discussion with Rep. Pressley, D.A. Rollins, & Other Leaders - June 23, 2020

Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, D.A. Rachael Rollins, and other regional and community leaders took part in a Panel Discussion on Structural Racism hosted by the City of Somerville on Tuesday, June 23, at 10:30 a.m. Byron Barnett of WHDH TV 7 News facilitated the panel, which also included Suffolk County Sheriff Steven Tompkins, Framingham Mayor Yvonne Spicer, Somerville Mayor Joe Curtatone, Somerville City Councilor At-Large Will Mbah, Ward 4 School Committee Member Andre Green, and Somerville High School Black Student Union President Floreisha Bastien. 

The discussion focused on how structural racism impacts health, public safety, education, jobs, housing, and other aspects of our society and communities. Panelists took on the questions of ‘Where do we go from here and how can everyone be an ally?’
