The DPW - Grounds Division keeps the City of Somerville looking its best. The Division’s responsibilities include:
- Trash and recycling removal in parks and playgrounds
- Ensuring ADA compliance in parks and playgrounds
- Events staging
- General landscaping and groundskeeping
- Maintenance and repairs to play structures
- Individualized maintenance plans for each park, playground, and greenspace
- Maintaining 11 acres of athletic fields, including natural and artificial turf playing surfaces
- Poured-in-place rubber surface in parks and playgrounds
- Maintaining dog parks
- Maintaining the Community Path
- Tree treatment, care, removals, and trimming
- Seasonal and ornamental plantings in traffic islands, parks, squares, etc., incorporating native species and native pollinator plants
