Join Our Memorial Day Observance Online: Monday, May 25, 2020

Please join us on Monday to reflect on and honor our fallen service members, who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, and to recognize our Gold Star families and their continued sacrifice.

Due to COVID-19, Somerville Memorial Day remembrance ceremonies and observances must shift to safer activities. Mayor Joe Curtatone and City Council President Matt McLaughlin will join Commander of VFW Dilboy Post 529 Bob Hardy, Michael Sullivan representing Disabled American Veterans Chapter 27, and Commander of American Legion Post 19 Norman Furtado, along with a small group of local Veterans and friends for an otherwise non-public Memorial Day wreath-laying ceremony that will be held with social distancing and recorded for the general public.

Please see this page, City social media feeds ( fb.com/SomervilleCity and twitter.com/SomervilleCity), and City Cable TV on Monday to view the ceremony. Street pole banners will also be hung by DPW along the usual parade route. To better connect us all to the meaning of this important day, City Cable TV (RCN channels 13 and 613 and Comcast 22) will also run footage 24/7 of Memorial Day parades and ceremonies from previous years.
