CITY, FEDERAL REALTY HOST LOCAL HIRING EVENTS MARCH 1, 2, 8 and 9

Working collaboratively to establish jobs for Somerville residents, FRIT and City co-host two weekend-long hiring events; Somerville residents invited to first weekend, second weekend to be opened to general public.

SOMERVILLE – As the

City prepares for the first retailers to open their doors this spring at Assembly Row, Somerville’s newest neighborhood

is hosting four job fairs, two of which will be exclusively for Somerville

residents, to give residents a first look and access to jobs with the City’s

newest employers. Jobs are being offered at a variety of levels, including

Sales Associates, Manager and Assistant Manager positions. A sampling of

available jobs are currently posted on Assembly Row’s Jobs Portal, and

many additional positions will be available through the job fairs.

Beginning the weekend

of March 1, the City of Somerville and Federal

Realty Investment Trust
will host two consecutive weekends of job fairs at

the East Somerville Community School. The Assembly Row

Job Fair
will feature some of the more than 30 retailers and restaurants,

including LEGOLAND

Discovery Center
and AMC Theater, opening at Assembly Row. Employers will

discuss open positions and accept resumes and applications. If you’re a

Somerville resident, March 1 and 2 is an exclusive first look just for you. The

job fairs on March 8 and 9 will be open to both Somerville and residents from surrounding

communities.

The fairs will be held

as follows:

  • Saturday, March 1: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. (SOMERVILLE RESIDENTS ONLY)
  • Sunday, March 2: 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. (SOMERVILLE RESIDENTS ONLY)
  • Saturday, March 8: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Sunday, March 9: 2 p.m. – 7 p.m.

“Somerville’s 20-year

SomerVision plan, sets our community’s vision for the next 20 years, including

the creation of 30,000 new jobs in the city, all by 2030. More than that, our

commitment is to provide opportunities for Somerville residents to access those

jobs through first-access initiatives, job fairs, job training and other

efforts. With the first phase of development nearing completion at Assembly

Row, Somerville residents will begin to see the early benefits of these plans

and goals,” said Mayor Curtatone.

“Assembly Row is the east coast's

largest mixed-use development under construction. Our outlet retailers,

restaurants, and entertainment anchors have quickly embraced the Local Hiring

Initiative with the sincere hope and preference of hiring locally with nearly

1,500 positions expected to be filled in just the first phase," said Russ

Joyner, VP and General Manager of Assembly Row. "The successful placement

of this many people would not be possible without the partnership of The City

of Somerville, the leadership of the City’s planning department, and the

assistance of the Local Hiring Initiative committee. We have been working with

the City for over five months to outline our united approach to hiring while

launching our Jobs Portal. We are confident that this program will help our

tenants prepare for a great opening season this spring at Assembly Row and

support the neighborhood’s successful and long term growth."

Earlier this year, the

City announced its intent to enter into a contract with

a local workforce development agency
to assist local workers in obtaining

new job opportunities in Somerville. In addition to providing job training, the

selected agency will connect residents with Somerville employers looking to

hire and will serve as a conduit for residents to learn about employment

opportunities and gain a first look at and access to those opportunities. As

the City moves toward the community’s goal of creating 30,000 new jobs in the

city by 2030, as set forth in SomerVision, new

development at Assembly Row is creating the first of those new jobs, and

Somerville residents will be able to reap the benefits through strong local

partnerships. A contract will be awarded to a local agency in coming weeks.

“LEGOLAND® Discovery Center is

beyond thrilled to come to Somerville and Assembly Row. As part of our grand

opening strategy we will be looking to hire more than 100 enthusiastic and

passionate employees,” said David Gilmore General Manager at LEGOLAND Discovery

Center. “Attracting talent from our community is one of our top priorities.

LEGOLAND Discovery Center will be a fun and interactive children’s attraction

that will offer roles in operations, food and beverage and retail. We have

an employee development plan in place which means that those who do come to

work for us will have the opportunity to grow. We are looking forward to

opening Merlin Entertainment’s 101st attraction with a strong,

locally based team.”
