Community Design Workshop for New School Building at 115 Sycamore May 11
Collaborate with the City’s design team to help inform how our next new school building can serve the community outside of school hours
As part of the design process for the new school building at 115 Sycamore Street, all community members are invited to join a collaborative workshop focused on planning for community programming uses at the new school building. Please join us on Monday, May 11, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Tufts Administration Building Atrium Conference Room at 167 Holland Street. The feedback gathered will be used by the City’s project team and architects to help inform design efforts and work moving forward.
The goal of this session is to better understand the community’s collective vision for how the building will serve the community outside of the typical school day. Discussions will focus on the potential uses of both indoor and outdoor spaces while school is not in session. Topics will include after-school programming, community event spaces, fitness and recreation, gardening and outdoor space use, and more.
Project architects, Perkins Eastman, along with City staff, will share information about the project and invite community members to discuss and provide feedback.
More About the Project
Somerville is building a new school at 115 Sycamore Street and working with the Massachusetts School Building Authority to access state funding to help cover the cost. This new school building will meet a range of Somerville School District needs. Various design options for how to configure quality learning environments within a larger structure are being explored. Community input will be invited throughout the development of the building’s design. Sign up for the project newsletter for updates on future opportunities.
