What is the Somerville Urban Forestry Committee?
The Urban Forestry Committee advises the City of Somerville on the management and maintenance of all existing and new trees and shrubs on public grounds and public ways.

The Committee collaborates closely with the Mayor’s Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development and the Department of Public Works to provide input on policies and plans related to urban forestry.

Responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and advising on the health, maintenance, and protection of existing trees and shrubs.
  • Updating information in the tree inventory.
  • Supporting public education and outreach on urban forestry.
  • Providing comments during city permitting review processes.
  • Developing educational materials, conducting community presentations, attending site visits, and supporting Arbor Day celebrations.

Who Can Join?
We are seeking one youth member (14-17 years old) and one general member with a passion for urban forestry. All Somerville residents are welcome to apply.
