Learn about Somerville’s Efforts to Reduce Flooding and Improve Water Quality in the Mystic River 3/25
Transformative stormwater management project aims to bring flood relief and promote environmental health
All community members are invited to learn more about flood relief and water quality improvement efforts planned for Winter Hill, Ten Hills, and the surrounding neighborhood. On March 25, take your pick of a project walk or a virtual meeting to get the latest on this important work.
Through its Mystic River Outfall and Sewer Separation project the City of Somerville will be making substantial investments to modernize its sewer and stormwater infrastructure. Since early 2024, City staff and consulting partners have been performing field investigations, coordinating with state and federal partners, gathering feedback from residents, and advancing the project’s design.
The project aims to reduce flooding in Winter Hill and Ten Hills while decreasing sewer overflows into the Mystic River during heavy storms.
Opportunities to Engage
The City will host two events on Wednesday, March 25, where members of the community can hear updates and share their feedback.
- Project Site Walk (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.)
- Get some fresh air and updates all at once. Gather at the intersection of Shore Drive and Temple Road. From there City staff and project consultants will lead a walk around the neighborhood to discuss the project objectives and highlight the locations of planned infrastructure improvements.
- Virtual Community Meeting (6 – 8 p.m.)
- Or join a virtual community meeting held via Zoom later that evening. Project team members will provide an overview of the project and take resident feedback.
- Register to attend here or on the project website (linked below).
