Reminder: Medford St. Bridge Closes 5/17 Through Spring 2020 for GLX Work

As part of the Green Line Extension project, the Medford St. bridge, behind Somerville High School, will close to all traffic starting Friday, May 17, at about 9 p.m. Crews will be onsite through about 2 a.m. Saturday setting up the closure. This bridge is expected to reopen in the spring of 2020.

Work within the MBTA rail right-of-way is not subject to the City’s noise ordinance, but pile driving and demolition operations are contractually prohibited between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.

View detour maps for pedestrians, motorists, cyclists, and buses at www.somervillema.gov/GLX.

As new traffic patterns settle in after the closure begins, streets along the detour will see more traffic than usual. Unfortunately, some inconvenience will be unavoidable. These detour routes are a product of more than a year of careful planning by MBTA and City engineers and public safety personnel. Somerville’s streets are public ways, and while we can’t forbid access, we can work to make them safer. Somerville Police and MBTA Transit Police will be helping manage traffic during the initial weeks of the closure and will make adjustments where appropriate for public safety.

If you have questions or need assistance for a Green Line construction-related matter, please call the 24/7 GLX hotline at 1-855-GLX-INFO (459-4636), email info@glxinfo.com, or contact 311. As always, for emergencies, call 911.
