Somerville’s first annual “Weekend of Play.” All activities, concerts
free, and fun!


SOMERVILLE – Somerville’s first annual “Somerville Weekend of Play” is
scheduled for May 17 & 18, 2014, throughout the City courtesy of the
City of Somerville, the Somerville Arts Council, Somerville Recreation
and Knucklebones.  Whether you associate “play” with musical
instruments, theater, physical activity or any other form, Somerville’s
goal is to support play in all its various forms on this weekend-long
celebration of having fun! All weekend, residents are invited to join
the City and Knucklebones for a wide variety of “play,” including the
City’s 4th annual PorchFest, and family-friendly activities in parks and
open spaces sponsored by the Somerville Recreation Department and
Knucklebones, a Somerville-based organization dedicated to providing
residents of all ages with fun and unique athletic opportunities.

The weekend’s events include:

Porchfest

Saturday, May 17, 12 – 6 p.m.

•    Musicians and bands – ranging from Bollywood funk, cosmic
Americana, killer blues, Moroccan, Balkan, gospel, American space rock
and clawhammer banjo – will serenade passersby from porches throughout
Somerville.


Activities in Somerville Parks

Saturday, May 17 (afternoon)

•    Parkour: Baxter Park (Assembly Square waterfront)
•    Inflatable Go Cart course, Knucklebones activities: Morse-Kelley Playground (Craigie Street / Summer Street)
•    Children’s sing-a-long with Liza Kitchell: Morse-Kelley Playground, 2 p.m.
•    Children’s sing-a-long with Jeremy Lyons: Hodgkins-Curtin Playground (Holland Street), 2 .p.m.
•    Imagination Playground: Lexington Park (Lexington Ave. / Commnity Path)

Sunday, May 18 (afternoon)

•    SportsFort, Children’s Playspace, Knucklebones activities: Hodgkins Park
•    Inflatable Go Cart course, Knucklebones activities: Morse-Kelley Playground
•    Parkour: Nathan Tufts Park (Powder House Rotary)
•    Public Ice Skating: Veterans Memorial Rink (Somerville Ave.), 12 – 1:50 p.m.
