Severe Weather Alert (NWS)

MASSACHUSETTS EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY
SITUATIONAL AWARENESS STATEMENT

The National Weather Service (NWS) Storm Prediction Center is forecasting the potential for severe weather in Massachusetts.  The storms have started developing and are moving eastward through upstate NY.  These storms will be scattered and will weaken as they move eastward through Massachusetts.  Western Massachusetts will see these scattered storms beginningaround 3-4pm.

The primary threats associated with these scattered storms are as follows:

  • Damaging wind
  • Large hail
  • Heavy rainfall
  • Potential for isolated flash flooding and minor flooding in low-laying, poor drainage and urban area

 

There is a potential for tornado development in the green area shown below (2% chance).

MEMA Operations

MEMA is at a Level I (Steady State/Monitoring) and will continue to monitor the situation, providing updates as needed.
