Somerville Commission for Persons with Disabilities Seeks Additional Members

Somerville residents are invited to apply for three vacancies on the Somerville Commission for Persons with Disabilities. Each vacancy must be filled by someone who identifies as having a disability.

The Somerville Commission for Persons with Disabilities is committed to ensuring equity and inclusion for all persons who live in, work in, and visit Somerville. The Commission works closely with the City’s Department of Racial and Social Justice and ADA Coordinator to ensure people who live in, work in, and visit the Somerville community are welcomed.

After completing a first term, Commissioners may be considered for reappointment for an additional three years. Candidates must be able to commit to a minimum of five hours of monthly service in addition to attending regular Commission meetings on the second Tuesday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. These are volunteer positions.

The appointment process includes an interview with members of the Commission, followed by a recommendation from Mayor Ballantyne and appointment by the City Council.

Applications are due Wednesday, May 24. Interested Somerville residents should submit a personal statement of interest describing why they would like to join the Commission by email to ada@somervillema.gov, or by mail to Adrienne Pomeroy, ADA Coordinator, City of Somerville, 93 Highland Ave., Somerville, MA 02143.
