Somerville Expanding Microgrant Program for Rental Energy Upgrades

Program now offers broader income eligibility for rental energy improvements grants

The City of Somerville is inviting owners of eligible rental units to apply for the reopened Save Energy Somerville Microgrant Program, which provides $2,000 grants to help offset the cost of energy efficiency and clean energy upgrades.

The expanded program is available for up to 25 rental units in Somerville. Property owners who may not have qualified previously are encouraged to review the updated eligibility requirements, as the tenant income limit has increased. Qualifying applicants must own a rental unit in a 2- to 4-unit building, and tenants must have household income below 100% of Area Median Income.

Read the eligibility guide one-pager to learn more.

What Projects Are Covered?

Eligible projects include weatherization such as insulation and air sealing; high-efficiency appliances including washers, dryers, and induction stoves; air-source heat pump HVAC systems; heat pump hot water heaters; and electrical upgrades needed to support those improvements.

To get started, fill out an application.  Property owners are encouraged to apply early, as funding is limited. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis.
