Somerville to Host National Night Out August 4 for an Evening of Family-Friendly Fun

Somerville Police Department and Somerville Recreation invite residents to a fun-filled evening of community connection at Somerville’s annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 4, at Dilboy Stadium (110 Alewife Brook Parkway) from 5 to 8 p.m. (rain date: Wednesday, August 5). 

This free event will feature a diverse array of family-friendly activities and entertainment including:  

• Bounce houses 
• Character meets 
• Dunk tank 
• Touch-a-truck 
• Pizza  
• Raffles (free to enter) 
• Lawn games  
• Local vendors and community resources 

Additionally, the first 300 school-aged kids or teens to arrive will receive a free backpack and school supplies to get ready for the upcoming school year. 

“As someone who loves both free pizza and community building, National Night Out is one of my favorite summer events,” said Mayor Jake Wilson. “It’s a great way for families to meet the officers who serve our communities. The more we get to know one another and look out for each other, the stronger our community becomes.” 

National Night Out is a nationwide initiative promoting police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer and more caring places to live. 

“Good community policing starts with good community relationships—and you can’t beat a dunk tank for relationship-building,” said Councilor Matt McLaughlin. “National Night Out is always a great time, and I’m looking forward to catching up with neighbors, colleagues, and friends at Dilboy. Thanks to SPD for bringing us all together every summer.”
