Somerville Invites Neighbors to Join Fall Neighborhood Cleanups November 7

Have you ever seen some wayward trash and thought ‘someone will get that?’ Now’s your chance to be that someone. On Saturday, November 7, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Somerville community members are all invited to spend a couple of hours outside, meet people nearby, and leave your street a little better than you found it.

November 7 is the second citywide cleanup as part of Somerville’s Year of the Neighbor initiative, a yearlong push to strengthen connections, build community, and tap into each individual’s ability to have a positive impact across Somerville. Whether you can stay for the full two hours or just stop by to lend a hand, the goal is the same: take care of your block and meet the people who make it home.

“There's something really satisfying about getting together with your neighbors and seeing the difference you can make in just a few hours,” said Mayor Wilson. “It’s why I’ve been a big supporter of neighborhood cleanups since my time on the City Council. We started Somerville’s Year of the Neighbor by rolling up our sleeves together, and so it only makes sense to start wrapping up 2026. Thanks to the City staff organizing this effort and my colleagues on the City Council and School Committee for pitching in. I hope you’ll join us.”

The City will provide supplies, and DPW crews will handle pickup, so residents can focus on the satisfying part: making their block a little better. Participants will also receive a City of Somerville water bottle or small thank-you item while supplies last.

Cleanup locations will be hosted in each ward with the support of the City Council and School Committee:

  • Ward 1: East Branch Library, 115 Broadway
  • Ward 2: Union Square Plaza, 90 Union Square
  • Ward 3: City Hall, 93 Highland Ave
  • Ward 4: Corner of Temple Street and Broadway
  • Ward 5: DPW Building, 1 Franey Rd
  • Ward 6: Statue Park, Davis Square (the central plaza opposite One Davis Square)
  • Ward 7: Corner of Holland Street and Broadway, Teele Square
