The City of Somerville’s Licensing Commission is seeking one Somerville resident to fill a vacancy on the three-member board. Commissioners serve three-year terms and earn a stipend of $3,600 per year. Meetings are held monthly, typically Monday evenings at 6 p.m.

Virtual Meeting to Discuss Somerville Junction Park Expansion & Renovation, July 7

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone, Ward 5 City Councilor Mark Niedergang, and City staff invite you to a virtual community meeting to discuss the proposed expansion and renovation of Somerville Junction Park. City staff will give an overview of existing conditions, present conceptual ideas for potential future uses, and gather feedback from attendees.

Cooling Center Opened at 167 Holland Street, Somerville; Heat Advisory and Safety Tips

A heat advisory for the Boston metro region remains in effect through Wednesday evening, June 30, and community members are urged to take precautions. Temperatures of 98-99 degrees are forecast through Wednesday but will feel like 100 to 103 degrees. The National Weather Service warns that due to the high heat and humidity that heat-related illness is possible. To stay safe, we urge community members to review all of the following heat safety tips and ways to stay cool in Somerville.

City of Somerville’s Mobile Farmers Market Begins 2021 Season on July 9

The Somerville Mobile Farmers Market will begin its 2021 season on July 9. On Fridays and Saturdays until October 16, customers can buy fresh, local produce in neighborhoods around Somerville.

The Mobile Market offers a 50% discount for any customers that need it and accepts cash, debit, credit, SNAP, P-EBT, WIC farmers market coupons, and senior farmers market coupons for payment. Any customers who shop and pay full price help the Mobile Market offer the discount to those who need it.

Public Event License Applications Due July 2 for Summertime Events in Somerville

Planning an event in Somerville this summer? Take note: Public Event license applications for events before Labor Day must be submitted online by Friday, July 2. Doing so ensures adequate processing time for the application to be submitted to the City Council before its summer recess begins at the conclusion of its meeting on July 8.

Somerville Arts Council's ArtBeat Returns July 10

Somerville Arts Council's ArtBeat is back in person this summer to celebrate pop art! This year's theme is “Pop!” so expect to see pops of color, eyepopping art installations, and a whole lot of surprises popping up all over Davis Square. This year's event will be held on Saturday, July 10 (rain date July 11) from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. throughout Davis Square, with a kickoff parade featuring the School of HONK starting at 10:30 a.m. ArtBeat is free, but with a suggested donation of $3 you will get an ArtBeat dog tag.

Somerville Veterans’ Commission on Monuments, Memorials, and Dedications Committee Seeks Five Members

The City of Somerville’s Veterans’ Commission on Monuments, Memorials, and Dedications Committee is accepting applications for five positions - three to be filled by veterans. The commission will have charge and control of the construction of any memorial for a veteran and will have custody and care of the memorial after its construction. The commission, which will also develop policies and procedures to follow for dedicating memorials, will meet when needed to name these assets. Meetings are expected to begin in the fall of 2021.

Get Vaccinated at Somerville’s Vaccine Day, 7/11

Sunday, July 11, is Somerville Vaccine Day. Three mobile clinics will be set up around the city to provide COVID-19 vaccines to anyone 12 or older. Clinics will be held at Holy Bible Baptist Church, 64 College Ave.; St. Anthony’s Parish, 12 Properzi Way; Brazilian Presbyterian Church, 212 School St. 

The clinics will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at all three locations, allowing people to get a free vaccine, while enjoying free food, music, and a gift.
