A guide to area pools accessible during summer heat

With summer temperatures here, it's a good time to plan ahead for ways to stay cool. Somerville’s pools, spray decks, and other water features are now open or opening soon, and they offer great options to beat the heat while enjoying the outdoors safely.

During hot weather, more people cool off in and around bodies of water. Learn how to keep yourself and others safe in and around water by reviewing Water Safety tips provided by the Commonwealth at https://www.mass.gov/water-safety. 

Community Pools

Somerville residents have several community pool options for the summer season. Dilboy Pool, Ginny Smithers Pool, and Latta Brothers Memorial Pool are now open.

Dilboy Pool - 110 Alewife Brook Parkway

  • Admission: Free
  • Regular hours: Daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. 
  • Lap swim: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 to 11 a.m.

Ginny Smithers Pool - 5 Cherry Street

  • Opening Date: Monday, June 22
  • Admission: Memberships and day passes are available, and fees vary by residency and swim type

Latta Brothers Memorial Pool - 235 Broadway

  • Admission: Free for State residents
  • Regular hours: Daily from 11:15 a.m. - 6:45 p.m. Spray deck open 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Latta Pool is a state-owned pool managed and operated by the Commonwealth. More information is available at mass.gov

With public transportation, you can also visit nearby communities that offer water features or pools. Please check for information from those communities on schedules and fees.

Heat safety tips and ways to keep cool in and around Somerville are included below. Safety tips are also available in multiple languages and can be found on the City’s Keeping Cool in Hot Weather webpage at somervillema.gov/keepcool.  

Important:   

  • Never leave children or pets unattended in a car or other vehicle, even for a quick errand and even if the windows are open.  
  • Drink plenty of water. Avoid alcoholic beverages and drinks with caffeine or large amounts of sugar.  
  • Reduce time spent in direct sun and wear sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses when outside.  
  • Limit outdoor activity to the morning and evening hours. Avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day, which is typically 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. 
  • Follow City social media pages and contact 311 for the latest information on places you can visit to cool off.  More information is available at somervillema.gov/socialmedia and somervillema.gov/311.

Looking to cool off during hot weather? Somerville’s splash pads are on and ready for use!

Many City parks and playgrounds have water spray features including simple single heads, overhead misters, and larger water play elements.

All splash pads are currently open for the 2026 summer season.

Water sprays run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. They are on timers and stop for 20 minutes between cycles. To find a water feature in your neighborhood, view the map below.
