Statement of Duties  

The Somerville Arts Council seeks a Culinary Coordinator to help with the Council’s Nibble program---a cultural culinary economic development initiative.  The ideal candidate will have experience and desire to serve an immigrant community focusing on culinary, cultural, and workforce development.  We seek candidates who have experience in working in the food industry and knowledge of food-handling regulation, catering, and working with immigrant communities.   

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate with entrepreneurs to sell their food and promote Nibble at various city events and local venues 
  • Collaborate with Cultural Director to create/manage all aspects of the vending schedule while ensuring Nibble adheres to the city’s health and inspectional services regulations  
  • Communicate with participants and collaborators (potential teachers & students, “consultants” etc.) to continually cultivate program 
  • Structure, launch, generate curriculum and run series of workforce development workshops 
  • Take lead on getting entrepreneurs ServeSafe certified 
  • Educate and empower entrepreneurs to vend through NEP program 
  • Manage mentorship program for students 
  • Organize and help manage overarching Nibble files  
  • Recruitment of new and existing teachers 
  • Facilitate scheduling, class structure and description with teachers as well as payment processing 
  • Help organize “test” class dinners when necessary 
  • Handle promotion: Post classes on SAC site, EventBrite, Nibble blog, press releases
  • Help oversee Nibble classes, making introduction on behalf of Arts Council  
  • Order supplies and equipment as needed
  • Work with team to plan, curate and run large culinary events – like festivals and pop-up restaurant series 
Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree and preferably three years related experience 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skill

Knowledge:  

  • Knowledge of food industry; ServeSafe certification or willingness to obtain certification. 
  • Public relations knowledge 

Abilities:  

  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule  
  • Ability to communicate with a large variety of stakeholders 

Skills:  

  • Bilingual or Multi lingual skills a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills 

Physical and Mental Requirements

Physical Skills 

Few physical demands are required to perform the work. Work effort principally involves sitting to perform work tasks, with intermittent periods of stooping, walking, and standing.  May also be some occasional lifting of objects such as office equipment and computer paper (up to 30lbs.) 

Motor Skills

Duties are largely mental rather than physical, but the job may occasionally require minimal motor skills for activities such as moving objects, operating a telephone, personal computer and/or most other office equipment including word processing, filing and sorting of papers.  

Visual Skills

Visual demands require constantly reading documents for general understanding and analytical purposes.

Hours:
20 to 30 hrs. per week (varied depending on season and cycle)
Salary:
$17-$20 an hour
