Group Insurance Commission (GIC)

The City of Somerville is participating in the Group Insurance Commission ("GIC") as of January 1, 2012. It offers health plans which have earned the distinction of being among the top ten commercial health plans in the country. They include Tufts Health Plan Navigator (POS), Harvard Pilgrim Independence Plan (PPO), and Unicare State Indemnity Plan/Basic with CIC (Indemnity) for active employees. For retirees, it offers plans including Harvard Pilgrim Medicare Enhance (Indemnity) and Tufts Health Plan Medicare Preferred (HMO).
